Voting for Trump over Harris in order to help safeguard our nation's "rules" and "procedures" is patently absurd.
Dear
,I've been reading and admiring your work for years now. Like you, I was continuously shocked by the Democratic Party’s general incompetence leading up to the election (to say nothing of the far left’s widespread, weapons-grade lunacy). The frenzied delirium that tended to define the left’s reaction to All Things Trump was indeed obnoxious and counterproductive, and Biden’s refusal to step down—along with his inner circle’s obfuscations—was, without a doubt, wrongheaded and harmful.
But after reading your endorsement of Donald Trump, I’m trying and failing to understand why you apparently feel the need to overcorrect for the left’s nonsense. Again, I share many of your qualms with the Democrats, but to react to their insanity by casting a vote for Trump—who as president encouraged (or at best didn’t attempt to thwart) a sea of cop-beaters to physically attack the United States—is similarly insane. There's no sense trading mean and dumb for dangerous and stupid.
You say you want Americans to “stick to our rules and our procedures,” and that we “don’t realize that the faith we place in these rules is what makes us so different from the rest of the world.” Agreed, but I’m forced to ask: Have you been paying even a small amount of attention to what Trump has been saying about our nation’s institutions lately, or to the fact that he encouraged an actual insurrection against the United States? How can you possibly square your admirable respect for our nation’s rules and procedures with that man's words and actions? (It’s also a bit odd that you rip on Harris for her jumbled, flip-flopping speech, yet appear unbothered by the inane, vacuous, and incoherent drivel that spills from Trump’s lips every time he manages to pry open that little butthole of a mouth.)
And yes, it’s clear that Harris’ identity as a black woman played a role in her political ascent. It’s also clear that a nontrivial number of people voted against her because of that identity, and for Trump because of his. Identity politics is very real (albeit slightly more subtle) on the right as well. Please don’t let the left’s idiocy distract you from the similarly dangerous politics of Trump and his spineless Republican enablers in Congress.
Thank you for your work and words.
Sincerely,
Nick Logan
